Horatio Arkas was born on January 4th 1998.
Growing up he spent many hours watching cartoons on the TV. In particular he was drawn to shows like the Amazing Spiderman and Justice League. Inspired by the superheroes he saw from both the MARVEL and DC comic book franchises Horatio began drawing small sketches of the superheroes and cartoons he watched.
Over the years he has amassed folders upon folders worth of sketches and full drawings of TV cartoon characters and superheroes. A chronicle of his development.
Horatio specialises as a penciller. Horatio prefers the classic combination of pencil and paper but he is also proficient creating using Photoshop, Illustrator, even apps on the iPad.
Horatio's current style of drawing is greatly influenced by an illustrator that has worked for both MARVEL and DC: Humberto Ramos.
Horatio first saw Humberto Ramos' art style in Amazing Spider-Man #648: BIG TIME. Horatio loved the rough, flexible and lively style of Ramos' drawings. Horatio delved further into Ramos' work and saw how he had developed over the years. From IMPLUSE and Peter Parker: Spider-Man Vol 1 to his current work: X-men blue, Champions and FairyQuest.
Horatio's talent has been nurtured by many teachers. His thanks go out to Christian Doubble (Chelsea Academy), James & Anna (West London College), Nonkululeko Zikalala (Nkuli), Suzanne Masterson, Grigorios Papazafiriou (William Morris Sixth Form) for pushing him to be the best he could be. He especially thanks everyone at William Morris Sixth Form as he would not have achieved a Double Distinction in his Level 3 BTEC Art & Design course without the supportive learning environment in that very special educational establishment.
Horatio has undertaken work experience at The Heatherley School of Fine Art. He helped to prepare and completely renew the space for their Annual Exhibition in 2014. In 2016 he worked at award winning Azoomee where he was tasked with creating designs for fairy tale characters to accompany some of their audiobooks.
Horatio hopes that in the near future his art would adorn the covers of comic books bestowing them with detail and beauty!
